Seat Belt
Recommendations are that a child stays in a booster till they can fit correctly in an adult seat belt. PEI Law states a child must be in a booster if they are 9 years of age or less or under 4 9″ tall.
The best way to see if they fit in an adult seat belt is the 5 step test.
5 Step Test:
Any person using a seat belt MUST have adequate head support to the tips of the ears. Make sure adjustable head rests are set correctly.

5 Step Test:
- Does your child sit all the way back in the vehicle seat?
- Does your child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the vehicle seat?
- Does the shoulder belt lay across the collar bone ? Not riding up on the neck or slipping off the shoulder?
- Does the lap belt sit low across the top of the thighs and not riding up on the belly?
- Can the child stay seated like this each and every trip, even when sleeping?
